The comment {about America} was made a week after the attacks of 9/11 and the sermon was about the killing of innocents.
He was obviously upset about the attacks and the killing of innocent people, and was certainly in shock, as most, if not all, were.
The comment was specifically about slavery. A side~note connecting the abuse and killing of innocents. It is a fact: slavery existed and was sanctioned by the government.
So, if anyone wishes to stand up for government supported slavery, have a go at it. But before people 'spew their bitter hatred' on a man, learn what the context is, and the facts.

I feel that Reverand Wright criticizing Bill Oreily and Hannity of Fox News was an extremely in-appropriate thing to do a funeral (and even in general). As a Reverend, you are to preach kindness, love, respect, morals, and values to people, not bitterness, hatred, and voilence. Reverend Wright was asked to eulogize a colleague at what is supposed to be a dedicatory service aimed at honoring a deceased friend. If he had taken this opportunity to lay out his personal laundry list of grievances regarding his tax status we would automatically know this was inappropriate. There the man is, lying in his coffin and his loved ones have to hear this narcicist use his death as a high-profile retribution forum. This shows a lack of personal discipline and respect for his friend. It lies outside the boundaries of propriety or good taste, but well inside the scope of vindictiveness.

Was this approriate at a funeral? For heaven's sake, is it less acceptable at a funeral than from the pulpit on a Sunday morning? Marc, many many americans black and white have fought and died for this country. Some with ideas like Wrights and many with the ideas of a Christian. Bridging the racial divide is a two way street and will never be bridged with words like Wrights. If you step outside of your politics or your race or whatever seems to boxing you in, you will hopefully be able to give the courtesy of tolerance to others that those such as Wright demand. I must live in sheltered world because I have never experienced or witnessed the racism that is bitterly preached by Wright and Obama. The people I love the most in this world come from all races. It is time for the Obamas and the Wrights of this world to put aside the past and learn to love, help and trust those of all races. Jesus' message was to preach the word to all the world. That message is the same for all, not a different message for one race over another. I have closely examined many of Wrights sermons over the past 30 years and his message is not the message of the bible. The love he incourages is not aimed at all, it is aimed at blacks promoting distrust, and seperation from white america. Until we disolve segerated sects such as the black caucus, black beauty pagents, black colleges that promote black superiorty over whites, etc. etc. etc. we will never over come racism. Those of us who work, pay our bills, don't break the law, etc. are penalized and taxed for those who don't. They have lots of kids out of wedlock and we pay for it all! The comment {about America} was made a week after the attacks of 9/11 and the sermon was about the killing of innocents.
He was obviously upset about the attacks and the killing of innocent people, and was certainly in shock, as most, if not all, were.
The comment was specifically about slavery. A side~note connecting the abuse and killing of innocents. It is a fact: slavery existed and was sanctioned by the government.

Reverend Wright was asked to eulogize a colleague at what is supposed to be a dedicatory service aimed at honoring a deceased friend. If he had taken this opportunity to lay out his personal laundry list of grievances regarding his tax status we would automatically know this was inappropriate. Was this approriate at a funeral? For heaven's sake, is it less acceptable at a funeral than from the pulpit on a Sunday morning? This irreverant person is so infested with hatred and his own agenda that the platform he uses is just his next opportunity. I was under the impression that a man of God was supposed to be bold in his proclamation of the gospel and yet humble of heart. Somehow Mr. Wright missed the boat. He is a sad figure indeed.

Marc, many many americans black and white have fought and died for this country. Some with ideas like Wrights and many with the ideas of a Christian. Bridging the racial divide is a two way street and will never be bridged with words like Wrights. If you step outside of your politics or your race or whatever seems to boxing you in, you will hopefully be able to give the courtesy of tolerance to others that those such as Wright demand. I must live in sheltered world because I have never experienced or witnessed the racism that is bitterly preached by Wright and Obama. The people I love the most in this world come from all races. It is time for the Obamas and the Wrights of this world to put aside the past and learn to love, help and trust those of all races. Jesus' message was to preach the word to all the world. That message is the same for all, not a different message for one race over another. I have closely examined many of Wrights sermons over the past 30 years and his message is not the message of the bible. The love he incourages is not aimed at all, it is aimed at blacks promoting distrust, and seperation from white america. Until we disolve segerated sects such as the black caucus, black beauty pagents, black colleges that promote black superiorty over whites, etc. etc. etc. we will never over come racism. Racism is a human trate not a white man trate. For one moment step into anothers shoes just as you ask others to do and I guarantee your heart will be changed. These comments like Obamas and Wrights will not affect you and you will be able to look beyond race.

After 20 yrs of listening to my minister, my life is bound to be shaped to some degree. Same goes for Obama, therefore, it is relevant. I can no longer give Rev. Wright the benefit of a doubt. The guy has a serious problem-----primarily consisting of hatred and anger which leads to enemies and destruction of all human values. He is supposed to represents Jesus--who preached love and forgiveness. It is so contradictory of the Christian faith it makes me wonder if he is a false prophet. If so, that would keep me from voting for Obama as he calls Wright his uncle/mentor.

Those of us who work, pay our bills, don't break the law, etc. are penalized and taxed for those who don't. They have lots of kids out of wedlock and we pay for it all! Wright, in a position of authority must surely understand that he will be held accountable by God for all the offenses , words, that leave his mouth and enter the world. I question his ability to perform in the capacity of pastor, or christian leader. It was most in appropriate to use a funeral to project his personal views against anyone.

They were saying God has had mercy on America and kept His hand of protection on us for over 200 years and maybe because of our lack of honor and obedience to him he is removing that protection.
