Do you think the spike in robberies is being fueled by drug addiction, the economy or both?

most definitely drugs. at no other time in this country's history has drug use and abuse been as wide spread as it is now. ask any school aged kid how hard it is to get drugs and they will answer "not very hard".
the 30 yr. war on drugs has been a total failure.
sadly i don't think this plague will be even brought under control never mind eradicated in my lifetime. education does not seem to be working, stiffer state manditory jail time does not seem to be much of a deterrent either. not with the profit drug dealers make.
i don't have all the answers but i think a good start would be to start at the federal level and really have a war on the import end of it, that coupled with intensive education, severe punishment{not the slap on the wrist poor junkie has a disease bull] for anybody commiting a crime because they need a fix. And a one chance is all you get rehab. the current system allows people to go through tax payer funded rehabs over and over again creating a whole generation of rehab residents, much like generational welfare families, one chance screw that up and it's off to jail to protect the rest of society. ya know the people that do not make the CHOICE to lie, steal, and leave a wake of despair, heartache and headache's behind them. I'll never understand why the people who go to work, pay there taxes, and live by the rules get screwed by paying for the slugs that never work because of there CHOICE to be junkies and who wouldn't know what paying taxes unless they hit the lottery. seriously the court system in mass. is a joke when it comes to drug related crime.
check out drug court in quincy sometime, the way these criminals are coddled by the judge is pathetic, they all give themselves a big round of applause enery week, hoorayyy, the junkies didn't rob or hurt anyone for a week, there made to get jobs BUT, there get well jobs, nice and easy so they don't get stressed out with responsibility, and the judge talks to a bunch of grown adults like a kindergarten class, sickening, also when the day does come that one of these criminal junkies makes it through with out getting pinched again they bake them a cake and have a little party, how nice huh?
i think a small percentage of these robberies are economy related but the majority are drug related.
there were just a many junkies stealing before the current recession, maybe a few had jobs, but think of the cost from low productivity, employee stealing whether it be from unauthorized time off or stealing company supplies, i know that when the power plant in no. wey. was under construction it was named the pharmacy. only now with lower level jobs being scarce are we seeing more crime due do drugs, so i guess in a round about way the economy is a part of this.
hopefully the current administration will take this as serious as spending future generations money.
